What to expect

For most clients, this is the first time they’ve enjoyed the advantages of an in-home cat grooming appointment and may not know what to expect.

Because my service is designed to be a low-stress, pampering experience, your cat gets one-on-one personalized attention in the comfort of their home territory eliminating carriers, travel, noisy and crowded salons, and barking dogs. You get peace of mind knowing they’re well cared for.

Respectful interactions between all of us are crucial to a successful grooming relationship. That’s why, upon my on-time arrival, I will enter your home quietly and always offer to remove my shoes.

Building trust is of the utmost importance and you can expect that I will approach your cat with the understanding that they need a calm introduction.

Every cat is unique as is their human!

Some cats warm up quickly; others need more time. I meet them where they are and allow them to set the pace.

Cats respond best to grooming when they feel safe, respected, understood, and unrushed. And a Churro or other treat is often helpful too.

I honor your cat’s boundaries and personality so that I can provide high-quality grooming that respects their physical comfort and emotional well-being.

I do this by:

• Speaking softly
• Letting your cat approach me first is always best
• When they do, I calmly offer them an open hand
• Encouraging them to come and sniff me
• Using their name and praising them
• Do the slow blink to relax them

Then I quietly unpack my equipment. (You can be confident knowing that all tools are cleaned and disinfected between appointments.) Many cats are curious and sniff everything, some sit quietly and watch me, and some have even jumped inside my backpack!

A quiet space is all that’s needed for me to do my work. This is all spelled out for clients in the Tips to Help Prepare for Your Cat’s In-Home Grooming Appointment document that is sent upon appointment confirmation.

Once we’re ready to begin, I assess whether they’d be better if swaddled, if so, I do that using one made especially for cats. Rest assured, it’s freshly laundered between appointments and soft and just like swaddled babies, makes them feel safe.

Then, one paw at a time, I gently squeeze their paw pads and trim each nail using a disinfected nail trimmer that’s quiet and quick. Once done, I will clean their ears using finger pads made specifically for this purpose.

If you chose the Purrfect Start package, then we’re done!

If you purchased any one of our other service packages the appointment may include other grooming services. For our Paws & Relax package, we continue with a de-shed brushing and a finishing spray; for our Top Cat Treatment which includes all our services including a dry shampoo, followed by another brush out.

Depending on the package chosen, appointment times typically range from 20-45 minutes per cat.

Once finished, I clean up the space, dispose of the nail tips we’ve just trimmed, as well as the ear cleaning pads, and any loose fur.
